Club Rio v. Lloyd's of London
The Club Rio, a restaurant on a barge in the Schuylkill River, was damaged during Hurricane Floyd. This insurance policy excluded coverage for damages caused by flooding. Club Rio claimed $850,000.00 damages caused by high winds. It demanded both insurance coverage and bad faith damages. We convinced the Court, through expert and fact witness testimony, that the damage was caused by flooding and received a defense verdict on all claims. The Court went farther and ruled that Club Rio had dramatically overstated its claim, and for that separate reason it was not entitled to coverage.
