Ford v. Ford Motor Company
Ford v. Ford involved that tragic death of an 8-month unborn child. Mrs. Ford, who was pregnant with her second child, was a restrained occupant of a 1992 Ford Escort which was struck head on by another vehicle on an icy road. Mrs. Ford sustained a ruptured uterus and other significant injuries. As a result of the accident, Mrs. and Mr. Ford lost the child. The plaintiffs claimed that the rear seat belts were poorly designed and permitted Mrs. Ford to submarine during the accident sequence. We argued that the belt system was properly designed and that given the severity of the accident itself, it was outside the limits of the restraint system. By presenting expert evidence, we were able to show exactly how severe the impact was and the jury returned with a defense verdict within hours.
